Long Term Care Insurance

Is Long-Term Care Insurance Right for You or Your Family Member?

What is long-term care insurance?

Long Term Care Insurance is insurance to care for an individual when they are unable to take care of some of their basic needs. There are six Activities of Daily Living - ADL's (bathing, eating, dressing, toileting, transferring (walking) and continence.  The policy usually begins to pay when the insured is unable to perform at least two ADLs without assistance.

Long term care insurance is designed to cover long-term medical services and supports, including personal and custodial care in a variety of settings such as your home, nursing home, assisted living facility or community organization.

Having this type of policy can even help you remain in your home.  There is a federal program that works with individuals that have used up their benefits under a long term care policy but still need care.

The Long-Term Care Partnership Program is a Federally-supported, state-operated initiative that allows individuals who purchase a qualified long term care insurance policy or coverage to protect a portion of their assets that they would typically need to spend down prior to qualifying for Medicaid coverage.
